A serious accident along Mityana-Fort Portal road has left friends and family mourning, while renewed concerns are being raised over the poor condition of the highway.
The road has been described by road users as heavily affected by potholes, with ongoing concerns over delayed reconstruction. The latest fatal crash has once again sparked calls for authorities to address the condition of the road before more lives are lost.
The victim, who was associated with St. Leo’s College and MTN Uganda, was remembered by friends and members of the community for supporting local events and maintaining strong connections with those around him.
Tributes shared online also included personal accounts from people who have lost relatives and friends in road crashes, with some users tagging government officials and calling for urgent action on the highway.
Others, however, pointed to poor driving habits as another factor contributing to accidents on Uganda’s roads.
Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has previously warned the contractor handling the road works, with a March 2027 deadline given amid years of delays.
