Prime Minister, Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has convened an urgent meeting with Uganda’s event and concert promoters to review the utilization of UGX 3 billion already disbursed from the UGX 10 billion presidential grant allocated to the entertainment industry.
The high-level meeting, held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, comes amid growing concerns over how the funds were spent and whether all beneficiaries were properly verified before receiving the money.
Sources indicate that accountability is at the center of the discussions, following reports that some promoters have agreed to refund part of the funds previously allocated to them. Government officials are now assessing the use of the first tranche before approving further disbursements.

Attention has also shifted to the remaining UGX 7 billion, with authorities working to establish clear guidelines to ensure transparency, fairness, and equitable distribution among stakeholders in the entertainment sector across the country.
The presidential grant was introduced to support Uganda’s creative industry and help event promoters recover, expand, and sustain their businesses. However, concerns surrounding the management of the initial funds have prompted increased scrutiny before additional money can be released.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to play a crucial role in determining how the remaining UGX 7 billion will be distributed and what accountability measures will govern future disbursements.
