Reports circulating on social media have claimed that Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa was locked inside a vehicle at the Karambi Royal Tombs and prevented from participating as the casket of her son, the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, was taken out during burial proceedings.
The claims emerged on Saturday, September 12, 2026, as King Oyo was being laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs following his funeral service at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal.
Some Ugandan journalists have described the reports as a developing story, citing unnamed sources and witnesses who were reportedly present at the royal tombs.
However, the claims have not been independently confirmed, and there is currently no verified account establishing that Queen Mother Kemigisa was locked inside a vehicle or deliberately blocked from participating in the burial proceedings.
The reports come on an emotionally charged day for the Tooro royal family, with Kemigisa having earlier delivered a deeply emotional tribute to her son during the funeral service.
In her speech, the Queen Mother described Oyo as a peaceful, kind and prayerful man and revealed that she had pleaded with God to take her life before that of her son when he was receiving treatment in hospital.
King Oyo was enthroned as Omukama of Tooro at the age of three in 1995 following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
He died in the United States on August 27, 2026, aged 34, after battling cancer.
His burial at the Karambi Royal Tombs took place on the 31st anniversary of his coronation, bringing to an end a week-long period of mourning and funeral ceremonies across Tooro.
