Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
Ruhamya graduated alongside fellow Ugandan Officer Cadet Bakira Ruyondo after completing the academy’s officer commissioning course.
The graduation followed an intensive military training programme covering areas including leadership, military tactics and command.
Ruhamya’s graduation comes months after Gen Muhoozi revealed that his son had enrolled at the prestigious military academy.
In recent weeks, the CDF shared photographs of Ruhamya during his training and also posted a side-by-side image comparing his son’s experience at Sandhurst with his own time at the academy.
Gen Muhoozi joined the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) as an Officer Cadet in 1999 and graduated from Sandhurst in 2000 before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
He later served as Commander of the Special Forces Command and Commander of Land Forces before becoming Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces.
Ruhamya’s graduation marks another chapter in the family’s long association with Uganda’s military.
President Yoweri Museveni led the National Resistance Army during the 1981–1986 guerrilla war that brought the current government to power, while Gen Muhoozi rose through the ranks of the UPDF after his own military training.
Ruhamya now joins a new generation of Ugandan military officers who have received training at Sandhurst.
The academy has trained military officers and members of royal families from several countries, including the United Kingdom, Jordan, Oman, Bahrain, Botswana and Nigeria.
