Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that President Yoweri Museveni has instructed him to release former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among from house arrest, months since his detention.
Muhoozi, who referred to Museveni as “Mzee,” said he had received the directive from the President regarding Among’s release.
Among was reportedly placed under house arrest in May 2026 following a raid on her home by the Special Forces Command (SFC).
“Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well.“- Muhoozi tweeted.
Her detention came amid a public fallout with Muhoozi, who had criticised her alleged lavish spending before withdrawing political support from her in connection with his Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) political group.
The latest announcement has renewed attention on Muhoozi’s reported involvement in the detention and release of a senior political figure, while also raising fresh debate about the role of security institutions in Uganda’s political affairs.
