Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has once again stirred political debate after announcing that he has blocked Bobi Wine whom he reffed as “Zakayo” from his X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the figure as irrelevant in Uganda’s current political landscape.
In Ugandan political discourse, “Zakayo” is a nickname often used by Muhoozi and his supporters to refer to opposition leader Bobi Wine, formally known as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
The remarks immediately reignited the long-running online rivalry between the two political camps, which has increasingly unfolded on social media through sharp exchanges and symbolic insults.
Muhoozi, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has in recent years used X as a key platform to comment on national politics, respond to critics, and rally supporters, blurring the line between military leadership and digital political engagement.
His latest decision to block the opposition figure comes amid rising political temperatures and renewed debate over Uganda’s electoral direction, further highlighting the deepening divide between the ruling establishment and opposition forces ahead of future polls.
The statement has already triggered widespread reactions online, with supporters praising the move while critics argue it reflects growing political polarization in the country’s public discourse.
