National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has announced changes in the party’s top leadership, appointing Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe as the new Acting President.
The announcement brings to an end the four-month tenure of Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, who had been serving as Acting President during Bobi Wine’s absence from the country.
In a statement, Bobi Wine appreciated Dr. Zedriga for her leadership during what he described as a challenging period, saying she successfully guided the party’s activities and ensured continuity while he remained outside Uganda.
Following the conclusion of Dr. Zedriga’s acting term, Nambeshe, who serves as NUP Deputy President for the Eastern Region, has been tasked with steering the party’s affairs as Acting President.

Bobi Wine called on NUP leaders, supporters, and members to give Nambeshe full support as he assumes the new responsibility, emphasizing the importance of unity and stability within the opposition movement.
The leadership changes come as Bobi Wine continues to stay outside Uganda after leaving the country in March 2026.
The NUP leader previously stated that his decision to remain abroad was linked to security concerns following the 2026 general elections.
Despite his absence, Bobi Wine reaffirmed his commitment to NUP’s political struggle and urged supporters to remain focused under the party’s slogan, #PeoplePowerOurPower.
For four months, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We’re all very grateful for her dedication and service.
