National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has raised alarm over the deteriorating health condition of opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was rushed to hospital after collapsing during court proceedings.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Bobi Wine claimed that Besigye’s deteriorating health should not be viewed separately from what he described as the government’s treatment of the veteran opposition politician.

Bobi Wine alleged that the government’s intention is to see Besigye die in custody, while calling on the international community and Ugandans to speak out against what he described as persecution.

In his statement, Bobi Wine cited remarks he attributed to President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, concerning Besigye’s continued detention.

Bobi Wine argued that the alleged remarks, combined with Besigye’s continued legal troubles and health concerns, should be treated as a matter of serious concern.

He further alleged that Besigye has been denied bail, faced restrictions affecting his legal representation and has been subjected to continued pressure by security agencies.

The NUP leader described the situation as “catastrophic” and urged the world not to remain silent.

Besigye was reportedly rushed to hospital earlier this week after collapsing during court proceedings.

The incident occurred as his high-profile case continued, with the opposition veteran reportedly objecting to state-appointed legal representation before proceedings were interrupted by his collapse.

His health condition has since generated concern among opposition supporters, activists and other members of the public.

Bobi Wine urged Ugandans and the international community to use every available avenue to speak out and protest against what he described as the government’s treatment of Besigye.

He accused the ruling establishment of using state power to intimidate and persecute political opponents.

The allegations made by Bobi Wine are political claims and should not be treated as established facts unless independently confirmed.

As Besigye continues receiving medical attention, attention remains focused on his health and the next developments in his ongoing legal battle.
