Common Man’s Party president and former Kawempe South MP, Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, has criticized the National Unity Platform (NUP), describing its political strategy as “TikTok politics” that cannot unseat the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Speaking during Sanyuka TV‘s One on One programme, Munyagwa argued that relying on viral social media appeal and youth excitement is not enough to defeat a government with decades of political experience.
“NUP’s politics are for TikTok. It cannot defeat the rebels’ government,” Munyagwa said.
His remarks come just weeks after NUP suffered a major setback in the Kalangala District Woman MP by-election, where NRM candidate Idah Nabayiga emerged victorious.
Known by his nickname “Mugati Gwa Bata,” Munyagwa has built his political profile on grassroots activism and humor and is also a 2026 presidential aspirant.
