The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has impounded a Kibaale District bulldozer worth approximately Shs600 million and arrested the district’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) over allegations of misuse of government property when he took it to do his private work.
The bulldozer, registration number LG 0028-19, was seized during a spot-check operation carried out by officers from the IG Hoima Regional Office together with Hoima Central Police.
The machine is currently being held at Kibaale Central Police Station as investigations continue.
According to the Inspectorate of Government, preliminary investigations indicate that the district-owned bulldozer was allegedly hired out irregularly to Karukana Enterprises Ltd for private gain.
Investigators allege that the arrangement involved Kibaale District CAO John Katotoroma and District Engineer Chrizestom Bagire, contrary to regulations governing the management of public resources.
The IG said Katotoroma was arrested and detained at Kibaale Central Police Station, where he recorded a statement before being released on police bond.
He is being investigated for alleged misuse of government property contrary to Section 9(5) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap. 116.
The Inspectorate said District Engineer Chrizestom Bagire has not been arrested but has been invited by the IG Hoima Regional Office to assist with ongoing investigations.
The anti-corruption body reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring government resources are used for their intended purpose.
The investigation comes as authorities continue to crack down on alleged misuse of government equipment and public funds across the country.
