The National Unity Platform (NUP) is holding a farewell vigil for fallen Ugandan comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, at its headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala.

The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2:00pm, giving party leaders, members, friends and supporters an opportunity to pay their last respects to the comedian.

In an invitation shared on X, NUP called on supporters to join the gathering in honour of Kapere, whom the party described as a comrade.

Kapere was a celebrated member of the Amarula Family comedy group, known for his physical comedy, exaggerated facial expressions and distinctive stage presence. He also featured in Bobi Wine’s Mr Money music video.

Beyond entertainment, Kapere openly supported NUP and had reportedly collected nomination forms to contest for a councillor seat in Makindye. His political involvement made him a familiar figure among the party’s supporters.

NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was among those who mourned him, describing Kapere as a brother, dear friend and comrade whose humour brought light during difficult moments.

Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also paid tribute, noting that he had met the comedian at the party’s Kavule offices just the previous week.

Kapere died on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after collapsing during a parents’ visitation event at Jolibo Day Care and Junior School in Wakiso District, where he had gone with his wife, Lydia Nakandi, popularly known as Maama Twamp.

He was rushed for medical attention but was later pronounced dead. The exact cause of his death has not been officially established, with a post-mortem examination expected to provide further answers.

According to information attributed to his management, Kapere is scheduled to be buried on Tuesday, November 3, at land he purchased in Kiyunga, Mukono District, reportedly in accordance with his wishes.
