Ugandan media personality and celebrated events emcee MC Kats has once again inspired many after opening up about how he discovered he was living with HIV.

Speaking during an interview with The Romantic Mukiga, MC Kats revealed that he had been battling tuberculosis (TB) without knowing he was also HIV positive.

According to the television personality, he never imagined he could contract the virus despite working in Uganda’s nightlife industry at the time.

I thought I was too cool to get HIV. I was working in the nightlife while I had TB, but I didn’t know I had HIV until my mum tricked me into going to the hospital to get cough medicine. They finally told her I was sick and that my immunity was very low. That’s how I started taking ARVs. I lost friends who I had helped. I lost gigs,” MC Kats said.

The entertainer explained that the diagnosis became a turning point in his life. Although he lost friendships and professional opportunities after revealing his status, he chose to begin antiretroviral therapy (ARVs) and focus on living positively.

MC Kats publicly disclosed his HIV status several years ago and has since become one of Uganda’s most prominent advocates for HIV/AIDS awareness. Through his platform, he continues to encourage people to know their HIV status, seek treatment early, and fight the stigma associated with the virus.

His latest testimony has generated widespread discussion online, with many people applauding his openness and resilience.

Health experts have long noted that tuberculosis and HIV frequently occur together because HIV weakens the immune system, increasing the risk of developing TB. This makes early testing and treatment especially important for those diagnosed with either condition.
