Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has renewed accusations against former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, alleging that he stole funds meant for road construction for more than 20 years and warning that he will face justice.

Muhoozi, son of President Yoweri Museveni, made the remarks amid renewed scrutiny of Kampala’s road infrastructure and the management of public funds.

Lukwago served as Kampala Lord Mayor from 2011 until his electoral defeat in early 2026. During his tenure, he frequently clashed with the central government over Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) funding, public contracts and the city’s persistent infrastructure challenges.

Muhoozi’s latest remarks also come amid calls for increased military oversight of Kampala’s road construction projects and efforts to address alleged corruption.

The accusations against Lukwago have not been substantiated by evidence provided in the information available for this report.
