Senior cultural leaders from Teso, led by Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, over the weekend visited former Speaker Anita Annet Among at her residence in Nakasero, offering support and addressing growing public concern over her health.

After the visit, the Emorimor said Among is recovering from exhaustion following a demanding campaign period. He added that he was encouraged by her progress and urged the public to remain calm as she continues to recuperate.

The delegation also dismissed widespread speculation about her condition, saying the former Speaker was in good spirits despite the physical exhaustion.

The visit comes just days after reports circulated that Among was battling serious health complications, including swollen legs and a suspected blood clot that had reportedly left her with difficulty walking. The reports triggered concern across the country, with several political leaders and members of the public calling for her to receive urgent medical care.

Among those who raised concern was Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, who joined Teso leaders in urging the State to allow Among access to her personal doctors and specialized treatment. Other visitors to her Nakasero home have also claimed she has largely remained within her compound due to difficulty walking caused by swollen feet.

The matter has since sparked wider public debate about transparency, state accountability, and the right of former senior government officials to access medical treatment. However, the government has not issued an official statement regarding her health or freedom of movement.

Meanwhile, the Teso elders revealed that they are seeking a direct meeting with President Yoweri Museveni to discuss issues affecting the region, as well as concerns arising from the recent developments involving Among.

The former Speaker remains under investigation over allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment, adding to the intense public attention surrounding her situation.
