Zawedde Lubwama Lukwago, wife of detained opposition politician and former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, has raised fresh concerns about his health, claiming that prolonged use of strong painkillers has damaged his intestines.
In a health update, Zawedde said her husband is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lubowa after being transferred from Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had also been receiving medical attention.
She explained that Lukwago has been battling several health complications, including problems linked to his previous spinal surgery. According to her, continued use of strong pain medication has further worsened his condition.

The update came during a visit by National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President Muwanga Kivumbi, amid growing concern among Lukwago’s family and supporters over his health while in detention.
Lukwago has reportedly been dealing with multiple medical conditions, including hypertension, lung complications and gastrointestinal problems. However, the claims regarding damage to his intestines have not been independently confirmed.
Meanwhile, his lawyers are pursuing his release on medical grounds, arguing that his condition requires appropriate treatment outside detention.
Zawedde’s latest account has renewed calls from his family and supporters for authorities to consider his medical condition as he continues receiving treatment.
