The High Court has dismissed a petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro challenging Fred Ruhindi’s victory in the Nakawa Division East parliamentary election.

In his ruling, Justice Allan Nshimye found that Mufumbiro had failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate claims of electoral irregularities, including the alleged exclusion of polling stations and tampering with Declaration of Results (DR) forms.

The judge ruled that photocopies of the disputed DR forms presented by Mufumbiro were uncertified and therefore inadmissible as evidence. He also noted that Mufumbiro’s polling agents had signed the forms without raising complaints at the time, weakening his claims of electoral malpractice.

Mufumbiro contested the January 2026 election while on remand at Luzira Prison over separate charges. He challenged Ruhindi’s victory, arguing that he had received more votes than the NRM candidate.

The dismissal upholds Ruhindi’s election as Nakawa Division East MP. Justice Nshimye further ordered each party to bear its own legal costs.
