A Congolese national working for a Kampala money transfer company has been committed to the High Court for trial over allegations of entering Uganda with $1.596 million (about Shs5.9 billion) in cash without declaring it to authorities. A leadership dispute at the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has forced Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to halt its scrutiny of the regulator. Prominent academic and activist Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo has been fined Shs30 million by the High Court after being found guilty of contempt of court over social media posts concerning Kampala International University (KIU). The Acting Town Clerk of Luwa Town Council in Namisindwa District, Kurobe Samuel, has been remanded to prison over allegations of abuse of office in a disputed land transaction. Samuel is accused of misusing part of a Shs150 million allocation intended for the purchase of land and construction of council offices in Kungu Cell.
