Witness Tells Court How Besigye Allegedly Said Bobi Wine WAs Not ready To Lead Uganda as a President

A prosecution witness in Dr. Kizza Besigye‘s ongoing treason trial has told the High Court that Besigye allegedly dismissed Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, as politically inexperienced and not ready to lead Uganda.

Andrew Wilson Orlando, a prosecution witness, testified that Besigye allegedly made the remarks while they were in Kenya.

According to Wilson’s testimony, Besigye allegedly said he could not work with Bobi Wine because he believed the National Unity Platform (NUP) had been heavily infiltrated by government agents.

Wilson further told the court that Besigye allegedly viewed Bobi Wine as politically inexperienced and lacking the capacity to take over and effectively lead the country, despite his strong public following.

The testimony forms part of Wilson’s ongoing evidence in the high-profile treason case involving Besigye and his co-accused.

Wilson has presented recordings allegedly made during meetings in Kenya, Switzerland and Greece, which prosecutors say contain discussions allegedly involving civil unrest, weapons procurement and plans to overthrow President Yoweri Museveni’s government by March 2025.

The allegations remain part of the prosecution’s case and are yet to be determined by the court. Wilson is expected to continue giving evidence as the trial proceeds.
