Congolese gospel musician and preacher Carlyto Lassa has reportedly died after collapsing in Cincinnati, Ohio, while on a preaching tour in the United States.
Lassa was a respected figure in Congolese music, having previously performed with legendary groups TPOK Jazz and Choc Stars before relocating to Paris and later embracing gospel music.
He was known for his distinctive voice and notably provided lead vocals on the 1984 hit “Maya” during his time with TPOK Jazz.
Lassa later built a successful gospel career, releasing songs including “Makolo ya Massiya.”
His sudden death has left fans, fellow musicians and the Congolese gospel community mourning the loss of a singer whose career and ministry touched audiences across Africa and beyond.
