Kasambya County Member of Parliament Hon. Daudi Kabanda has defiantly responded to questions surrounding his removal from the position of Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), insisting that he owes no explanation to anyone regarding his departure.
Kabanda, who was recently replaced by Tingey County MP, Hon. Fadil Twalla, dismissed calls for clarification on whether he was fired or voluntarily stepped down from the influential role.
Speaking during an appearance on Sure FM’s Amasanganzira program, Kabanda maintained that his status within the organization is a personal matter.
“I don’t need to explain to anyone whether I was fired from the position of Secretary General of PLU or not, unless I choose to. I am not answerable to anyone,” Kabanda said.
His remarks come amid ongoing speculation about internal dynamics within PLU following recent leadership changes.
Before leaving the position, Kabanda had publicly expressed concern about growing divisions within the organization during his three-year tenure under the leadership of PLU Chairperson Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Following his resignation, Kabanda revealed that he personally informed Gen. Muhoozi of his decision before making it public.
In an earlier interview with Daily Monitor, Kabanda explained that his departure was motivated by concerns over what he described as the increasing misuse of the office by some individuals seeking personal financial gain.
“I could not allow the office to be exploited for selfish reasons,” he reportedly said.
According to Kabanda, some members had begun treating the Secretary General’s office as an avenue for personal benefit, a development he said was inconsistent with the organization’s objectives.
Despite stepping down from the top administrative role, Kabanda will remain a member of the PLU Central Committee as the organization undergoes a broader internal restructuring.
A few weeks ago, PLU announced a major reorganization of its Central Committee, signaling significant changes ahead of Uganda’s next political cycle.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba said the outgoing leadership had successfully fulfilled its initial mandate but stressed the need for fresh leadership to address emerging political and organizational challenges.
Despite the shake-up, several senior figures have retained their positions within the Central Committee. These include Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, MP Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda, who continue to oversee critical portfolios such as mobilization, legal affairs, and communications.
The restructuring is widely viewed as part of PLU’s efforts to strengthen its internal structures and position itself for future political engagements as Uganda moves closer to the next electoral cycle.
