Retired Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu has reportedly been arrested by security forces in Soroti City over allegations of involvement in subversive activities and plans to destabilise the Teso sub-region.
The arrest was announced by UPDF spokesperson Acting Col. Chris Magezi, who described Elwelu as a renegade officer allegedly linked to the suspected activities.
Magezi also revealed that security forces had recently recovered 15 guns allegedly linked to the retired general, alongside military fatigues and two pickup trucks.
Elwelu previously served as Deputy Chief of Defence Forces before becoming embroiled in a public dispute with current CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who recently accused him of treachery.
Magezi said Elwelu would be charged and prosecuted in court over the allegations.
