Job Title: Exploration Geologist (1 Vacancy)
Reports To: Exploration Geologist Specialist
Job Purpose: Responsible for evaluating geoscientific data to identify, evaluate, and assess potential oil and gas resources, using geological techniques.
Essential Duties:
- Undertake geological data acquisition, interpretation, and evaluation to generate hydrocarbon plays, prospects, and leads.
- Evaluate and interpret E&P data to understand the surface and subsurface structures, develop reservoir models, and characterize reservoirs.
- Participate in the quality control, storage, and management of geological data and physical field samples that relate to exploration areas.
- Evaluate exploration prospects and opportunities to assess their petroleum potential.
- Evaluate and rank the resources, risks, and uncertainties of the prospects to be drilled and suggest exploration and development programs.
- Assist in planning exploration wells.
- Develop subsurface static reservoir models to understand structure, reservoir characteristics, and petroleum quality and quantity.
- Participate in the estimation of petroleum resources/reserves and classify the Company’s resource portfolio with prudent classification frameworks.
- Identify geological uncertainties and risks associated with exploration targets and propose mitigation strategies.
- Identify and evaluate technical, regulatory, and economic risks associated with geological aspects of exploration projects.
- Evaluate Partners’ technical proposals and participate in meetings with Partners and Authorities when required.
- Participate in the preparation of applications for petroleum exploration licenses and evaluation of geological work programs and other technical proposals.
- Assist in the development of operational procedures for E&P operations and ensure that all operations are conducted according to approved procedures.
- Participate in negotiation of joint venture agreements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) in either Geology and Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Petroleum Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering, or other relevant honors degree.
- Membership in the relevant oil and gas industry professional bodies like SPE, AAPG, and SEG is an added advantage.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in petroleum E&P operations.
- Hands-on experience in geological analysis and integration software suites.
- Relevant experience in exploration geology within the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge in exploration and development operations, Health & Safety standards, and operational procedures.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to work independently but also work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment to develop appropriate work programs.
- Good negotiation and communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety standards and operational procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks and environmental considerations in exploration.
- Skilled in integrated reservoir modeling.
- Knowledge in well log analysis, core description, and seismic interpretation.
