Ugandan political commentator and events promoter Alfonse Mukasa, popularly known as Bajjo, has stirred fresh political debate after claiming that ongoing negotiations could eventually see former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among sent to Luzira Prison.
Speaking about the widening Parliament corruption investigation, Bajjo alleged that funds reportedly channelled through Parliament Director of Communications Chris Obore and other officials were ultimately intended for Anita Among.
However, Bajjo did not provide any evidence to support the allegations, and the claims remain unverified.
His remarks come as anti-corruption investigators continue widening their probe into the alleged misuse of parliamentary funds.
The investigation has already seen several senior Parliament officials arrested and arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court over allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, and the alleged theft of more than Shs 27 billion intended for parliamentary SACCOs.
Among those remanded to Luzira Prison is Chris Obore, a close associate of the former Speaker, alongside several other Parliament officials.
Meanwhile, Anita Among remains under scrutiny after investigators searched some of her properties in Nakasero, Kigo, and Bukedea, seized documents and electronic devices, and impounded several luxury vehicles as part of ongoing corruption investigations.
Despite the ongoing investigations, authorities have not announced any criminal charges against Anita Among, and there is no official indication that she is due to appear in court.
