Former Speaker Anita Among has been assigned to the Committee on Government Assurance, marking her latest role in Uganda’s 12th Parliament following her departure from the Speaker’s office earlier this year.
Among, who served as Speaker from 2022 until May 2026, will now serve as an ordinary member of the committee after leaving the parliamentary leadership position.
In one of the notable committee appointments, opposition legislator Francis Zaake has been named chairperson of the Committee on Government Assurance, while Anna Adeke will serve as the committee’s vice chairperson.
The appointments are part of Parliament’s broader reorganization following the 2026 General Elections, with committee memberships and leadership positions being reshuffled to reflect the composition of the new Parliament.
The committee is expected to play a key oversight role by monitoring government commitments made on the floor of Parliament and following up on assurances issued by ministers and other government officials.

The latest appointments officially pave the way for committees of the 12th Parliament to begin executing their oversight, legislative scrutiny, and accountability responsibilities.
