The legal battle surrounding National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Buganda, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, has taken a new turn after his lawyers filed a habeas corpus application in the High Court seeking an order compelling authorities to produce him or disclose his whereabouts.
The application was lodged by Kivumbi’s legal team, led by lawyer Erias Muyizzi, together with members of his family.
According to his lawyers, Kivumbi was reportedly abducted a day after being granted cash bail by court. They argue that despite the court’s decision, he has not regained his freedom, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
His continued absence has heightened concern among family members, lawyers, supporters, and human rights advocates, who are calling for accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
A habeas corpus application is a legal procedure that requires authorities to produce a detained person before court and justify the legality of their detention.
The High Court is expected to hear the application as pressure continues to mount on the authorities to account for Kivumbi’s whereabouts.
