Speaker of Parliament Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth has pledged to build a more transparent, accountable, and people-centered Parliament, assuring Ugandans that he is committed to restoring public confidence in the institution.
Speaking as the Guest of Honor at the handover ceremony of leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Naguru, Kampala, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Oboth Oboth appealed for patience and support as he settles into his new role.
“I ask for your support and understanding as I settle into this responsibility. My commitment is to build a Parliament that serves the people better and upholds the highest standards of accountability,” he said.
The Speaker also urged political leaders across the country to reject corruption and focus on addressing the concerns of ordinary citizens.
He noted that Uganda is blessed with vast opportunities that can enable every citizen to prosper, but warned that corruption continues to undermine the country’s progress.
Oboth Oboth challenged members of the PLU and other patriotic Ugandans to take a firm stand against corruption, describing it as one of the biggest obstacles to national development.
“Uganda has enormous potential for everyone to succeed, but we must be serious about fighting corruption if we are to achieve meaningful progress,” he emphasized.
Elected Speaker in May 2026 following the departure of Anita Among, Oboth Oboth has consistently championed transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service. His leadership comes at a time when many Ugandans are calling for reforms aimed at strengthening Parliament’s oversight role and improving public trust in the institution.
His latest remarks underscore a determination to lead a Parliament that is responsive to citizens’ needs, free from corruption, and committed to effective representation and oversight.
“Give me time, and I will deliver a Parliament that Ugandans can truly be proud of,” the Speaker assured.
