President Yoweri Museveni has publicly thanked God for the recovery of First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni after she went through what he described as a serious health crisis earlier this year.
Museveni made the remarks on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during the consecration of his daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Churches at Covenant Hill in Maya.
The President revealed that Janet’s health crisis began on March 21, 2026, keeping the First Lady away from public engagements for more than five months.
Museveni expressed gratitude to the medical team that cared for his wife and also recognised members of their family, including Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Diana, for standing by Janet throughout the difficult period.
Janet also made one of her first major public appearances since falling ill, describing her recovery as a story of divine deliverance.
The emotional occasion also marked a major milestone for the Museveni family as Patience Rwabwogo was consecrated as a bishop, becoming the first bishop in the family lineage.
Museveni reflected on his family’s Christian journey during the ceremony, noting that their adoption of Christianity was relatively recent, dating back to 1947.
The ceremony therefore brought together two significant moments for the First Family — thanksgiving for Janet’s recovery and the elevation of Patience Rwabwogo to the episcopacy after two decades of ministry.
