Vice President Rt. Hon. Jessica Alupo has directed State Ministers for Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi and Justine Nameere to carry out their duties with accountability, transparency and strict adherence to the law as the government intensifies its campaign against corruption.
Alupo made the remarks at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala during a stakeholders’ engagement on the implementation of President Yoweri Museveni’s directives to expose and eliminate corruption.
The meeting, convened by Minister Balaam Barugahara, brought together Local Government leaders to discuss ways of strengthening accountability, transparency and service delivery.
The Vice President specifically directed the Office of the Attorney General to provide legal support to the two ministers whenever enforcement actions are undertaken.
Alupo said legal guidance would help ensure that arrests and other actions taken during the anti-corruption campaign are lawful and protect the government from unnecessary legal challenges.

“The Office of the Attorney General should support the Ministers of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara and Justine Nameere, legally to ensure that all arrests are legitimate so that we can avoid unnecessary allegations against the government at a later time,” Alupo said.
She stressed that the fight against corruption must be conducted within the law while protecting the rights of citizens and maintaining the credibility of government institutions.
Alupo also reminded the ministers to remain focused on their responsibility to serve Ugandans and ensure that the anti-corruption campaign translates into improved public service delivery.
The directives come as the government continues with its nationwide campaign against corruption, including efforts to expose abuse of office and strengthen accountability within local governments.
