Veteran Ugandan drama director John Segawa has come out nd shockingly confessed about his past, admitting that he used to be a certified and renown pimp in the industry especially in Eagles Production.
Segawa made the confession while discussing his upcoming stage production Irreversible Regret, a play he says will highlight the hidden struggles, moral challenges, and dangers within the entertainment industry.
The celebrated dramatist said the industry often presents a glamorous image to young people while hiding some of the realities that happen behind the scenes.
“I myself was a pimp selling girls. It’s very absurd. But I have a show I’m working on called Irreversible Regret. I want to expose the ills in the entertainment industry that we, the stars, hide from our fans,” Segawa said.
He explained that the production is meant to educate aspiring entertainers and help them understand the risks that can come with pursuing careers in showbiz.
Segawa said the play was inspired by the life story of actress Suzan Kigula, whom he described as one of the founding members of Diamond Ensemble.
According to Segawa, Kigula’s journey from fame to personal struggles reflects some of the challenges that can affect people in the entertainment world.
Segawa says Irreversible Regret will use such experiences to deliver a cautionary message to young people chasing fame, urging them to make informed choices before entering the entertainment industry.
