Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly branded the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) an “illegal organisation” and threatened arrests over alleged corruption.

Hours later, Matthew Bagonza, Head of Secretariat to PACEID chairman Odrek Rwabwogo, was reportedly picked up from his home in Entebbe by unidentified security operatives.

Muhoozi later confirmed Bagonza’s detention in a post on X, claiming that the PACEID official had been taken to the “basement.” He also shared a now-deleted post featuring Bagonza.

Rwabwogo, President Yoweri Museveni’s son-in-law, chairs PACEID, while Muhoozi is the President’s son and Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces.

The developments have triggered speculation about possible disagreements and competing centres of influence within Uganda’s First Family, although the circumstances surrounding Bagonza’s detention and any charges against him remain unclear.

Attention is now turning to whether Bagonza will be formally charged and what the developments mean for the future of PACEID.
