Ugandan Muslim scholar and Islamic preacher Sheikh Muhsin Burhan Kiti, popularly known as Sheikh Kiti, has challenged Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to publicly explain his intentions to contest for Uganda’s presidency in 2031.
Sheikh Kiti wants Muhoozi to go beyond social media and address the country directly through a formal press conference, where he can clearly explain his political ambitions and plans.
The preacher, who is known for his public lectures, Islamic preaching and outspoken views on social and political issues, made the call amid growing attention surrounding Muhoozi’s political activities.
His remarks come weeks after Muhoozi used his X account, formerly known as Twitter, to publicly express his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2031 elections.
The declaration has since generated debate about Uganda’s political future, with Muhoozi’s supporters also beginning mobilisation efforts through the PLU movement.
The movement has reportedly launched a signature campaign aimed at building public support for Muhoozi’s potential presidential bid.
Sheikh Kiti now wants the General to take the next step by facing journalists and the public in person instead of relying primarily on social media posts to communicate his political intentions.
According to Sheikh Kiti, such a press conference would give Muhoozi an opportunity to clearly explain his plans and directly address questions surrounding his reported presidential ambitions.
The call comes as activities surrounding the PLU and discussions about the 2031 elections continue to attract public attention.
