The Chairperson of Uganda’s Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, has warned voters against engaging in voter bribery and intimidation ahead of the LC1 Chairperson elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Speaking during an appearance on Sanyuka TV’s Morning Xpress, Byabakama reminded Ugandans that both practices are criminal offences and urged citizens to elect leaders based on their character and ability to serve.
“Voter bribery and voter intimidation are criminal offences. We urge people to vote for LC I Chairpersons they know have integrity,” Byabakama said.
Byabakama highlighted the importance of LC1 Chairpersons in communities, saying they play a key role in maintaining local security, resolving disputes, and supporting grassroots development.
He encouraged voters to choose individuals with proven leadership qualities rather than those using money or threats to influence their decisions.
The Electoral Commission has continued to call for peaceful, free, and fair elections, urging candidates and voters to follow electoral laws throughout the process.
As Ugandans prepare to vote, the Commission says protecting the credibility of the LC1 elections starts with rejecting bribery, intimidation, and other forms of electoral malpractice.
