Ugandan media personality and socialite Sheilah Gashumba has reignited the heated debate over the Tooro Kingdom succession, claiming that late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV left behind a young son living in the United States.
According to Gashumba, the child, popularly referred to as “Baby Oyo,” is about two years old and will be publicly revealed at the appropriate time in accordance with Tooro Kingdom traditions.
Her remarks come weeks after the death of King Oyo, who passed away in August 2026 at the age of 34 following a battle with cancer.
The succession question has since become increasingly contentious following the selection of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a cousin of the late king, by a Babiito clan succession committee as the next Omukama of Tooro.
Claims about the existence of Oyo’s biological son have added another layer to the dispute, particularly because the reported child would potentially have a direct connection to the late monarch.
Members of Oyo’s family and President Yoweri Museveni have previously spoken about the existence of an unrecognized prince, although details about the child’s identity, whereabouts and legal or cultural status have remained unclear.
Gashumba’s latest comments have consequently sparked fresh debate online, with some questioning what could happen to the succession process if the late king’s biological son is eventually publicly identified and recognized.
The issue has become even more sensitive following Edward Kijanangoma’s reported installation amid disagreements within the royal family over who should take over the Tooro throne.
For now, however, Gashumba’s claims about “Baby Oyo” remain claims, and the child’s identity and status have not been publicly established in a manner that resolves the ongoing succession dispute.

As Tooro navigates the difficult period following King Oyo’s death, attention remains focused on the competing claims surrounding the future of the kingdom and whether the late monarch’s reported direct heir will eventually emerge publicly.
