The dispute over the Tooro Kingdom succession has taken another dramatic turn after Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki, head of the Babiito royal clan, revealed that the keys to the Karuziika Royal Palace are missing.
Kamurasi made the revelation while addressing Tooro’s Orukurato Council of Elders, as disagreements continue over the succession process following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The Babiito clan leader maintained that the royal clan has already selected a new King, despite ongoing legal challenges and disagreements surrounding the succession.
Oyo died from cancer in August 2026 at the age of 34, leaving behind a succession process that has since become a major point of contention within the Tooro royal family and kingdom structures.
Following his death, the Babiito clan selected Oyo’s cousin, former TV news anchor Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as the successor.
However, the decision has faced opposition from members of the late King’s immediate family, triggering a wider dispute over who should take over the Tooro throne.
Kamurasi also addressed tensions surrounding an agreement reportedly reached between the government, the Queen Mother, the Musuuga and the Babiito clan.
The agreement was reportedly intended to keep the late King’s burial arrangements separate from the succession process while ensuring the protection of royal properties and cultural sites.
With disagreements now emerging over the succession, Kamurasi maintained that the Babiito leadership remains committed to following Tooro customs and the laws of Uganda.
The revelation about the missing palace keys adds another layer to the unfolding dispute, with questions now surrounding access to and control of royal property as the succession row continues.
