Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has broken weeks of public silence after hosting a delegation of Teso cultural leaders at her home in Nakasero, giving Ugandans a look at her appearance amidst health scare.

The delegation, led by Emorimor Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, visited the former Speaker on June 28 in a show of solidarity following her withdrawal from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament.

The visit marked Among’s most visible public engagement since stepping away from the spotlight amid ongoing political developments, investigations into her wealth, and speculation surrounding her health.

Among Reaffirms Loyalty to Museveni

During the meeting, Among used the opportunity to reaffirm her commitment to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

I remain a loyal cadre and I will serve wherever I am deployed,” she said, describing President Museveni as her political mentor.

Her remarks appeared aimed at dismissing speculation that she had fallen out with the country’s leadership following recent political changes.

Former Speaker Dismisses Cash Seizure Claims

Among also addressed reports surrounding investigations into her wealth.

While acknowledging that security agencies had searched some of her properties in Nakasero, Kigo, and Bukedea, she denied reports claiming investigators recovered large amounts of hidden cash.

She further rejected suggestions that she had been subjected to harsh treatment during the ongoing investigations.

Visit Offers Glimpse Into Her Health

The visit also gave the public its clearest look at the former Speaker after weeks of rumours about her health and whereabouts.

Although she has remained largely out of public view since withdrawing from the Speakership race in May, the meeting showed her receiving visitors from her residence as she continues to keep a relatively low profile.
