Parliament’s Government Assurance Committee chairman Hon. Francis Zaake has put Local Government Minister Hon. Balaam Barugahara on notice, warning that he will soon be summoned to explain unresolved issues and concerns within the ministry he leads.

Zaake said Barugahara should prepare to account for what he described as the messes within the Ministry of Local Government, arguing that being newly appointed does not exempt him from responsibility for problems inherited from previous leadership.

According to Zaake, now that Barugahara is the substantive minister, he is expected to provide answers and ensure outstanding issues within the ministry are addressed.

Being new in the position will not be an excuse,” Zaake warned.

Barugahara, a recent appointee as Minister of Local Government, has gained attention for his anti-corruption campaigns and surprise inspections targeting alleged mismanagement and abuse of public resources.

He is deputised by State Minister for Local Government Hon. Justine Nameere.

The warning sets the stage for fresh parliamentary scrutiny, with Zaake indicating that the Government Assurance Committee will demand accountability from officials over government commitments and unresolved concerns.

The committee has intensified its oversight of government programmes, pushing officials and contractors to explain delays, stalled projects and concerns surrounding the use of public funds.
