Veteran Ugandan singer Juliana Kanyomozi has strongly denied allegations that she betrayed close friend and fellow entertainer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, as she spoke out against years of online harassment tied to her decision to remain politically neutral.
Appearing on Galaxy TV’s The Deep Talk, Juliana said she had finally reached a point where she could no longer stay silent amid persistent accusations from sections of the public who believe she is obligated to publicly support Bobi Wine’s political journey.
“I have never betrayed Bobi Wine. I think enough is enough, and people just need to hear from me,” she said, addressing the long-running controversy head-on.
The award-winning singer clarified that her past friendship and musical collaborations with Bobi Wine should not be interpreted as a political commitment or an obligation to align with his political ambitions.
She explained that her decision to stay out of partisan politics is personal and intentional, stressing that it should not be mistaken for disloyalty or betrayal.
Juliana further revealed that she has endured sustained criticism and online abuse over the years from individuals who expect public figures to take clear political sides. According to her, this expectation has unfairly fueled misconceptions about her character and relationships.
“There was no arrangement between me and Bobi Wine that I would support him in his life choices. We were just friends who grew up together, worked together, and then life happened,” she added, pushing back against narratives suggesting political obligation between them.
Her remarks come amid ongoing public pressure on Ugandan entertainers to declare political allegiance, especially in a highly charged environment where celebrities are often scrutinized for their perceived affiliations.
By speaking out, Juliana aims to correct what she describes as a long-standing misunderstanding and reaffirm her stance that choosing neutrality does not equate to betrayal of friendships or personal values.
