Bobi Young, real name Anthony Agaba Twinomijuni, a bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine, has been released after spending nearly two years in detention.
Agaba was arrested in May 2024 and later faced charges before a military court over allegations of illegally possessing military-style uniforms and equipment.
Police reportedly recovered red clothing resembling security forces attire, walkie-talkies and berets from his home. A photograph circulating online also shows Agaba wearing the red outfit that became part of the case against him.
Recent social media posts indicate that Agaba was released after pleading guilty before the military court, bringing an end to his prolonged detention.
His release has been welcomed by supporters, who celebrated his return while renewing calls for the freedom of other opposition supporters and political detainees who remain in custody.
Agaba’s case has attracted attention amid ongoing debate over the treatment of opposition supporters in Uganda and the use of military courts in cases involving civilians.
Further details surrounding the terms of his release and the court proceedings remain subject to official confirmation.
