Police in Wakiso District have arrested two suspects and rescued a 10-year-old child who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom, recovering a motor vehicle reportedly stolen during the incident.

The incident occurred on October 4, 2026, at around 2pm in Senge, Wakiso Sub-county.

The suspects have been identified as Matovu Benard, 20, a resident of Nsumbi, Kyebando, and Ssemata Christopher, 30, a boda boda rider from the same area.

According to preliminary police investigations, Matovu had been hired at around 9am to wash a silver Subaru Impreza, registration number UA 229AR, at a residence in Nansana East 2A.

Police allege that after washing the vehicle, Matovu drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and travelled to Senge, where he allegedly abducted the child from the family’s workshop.

The child was reportedly taken to Nsumbi Village in Kyebando, where the suspect allegedly demanded Shs20 million for the child’s release. Police said a bank account was also provided for payment of the ransom.

Following investigations and a series of follow-up operations, police recovered the child and the motor vehicle.

The two suspects were reportedly rescued from a mob before being detained at Nansana Police Station.

Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the vehicle.
