Kampala residents are to experience improved garbage collection services after the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) expanded its waste management fleet with 24 new trucks to help with cleaning all 5 divisions.

KCCA revealed that it has acquired nine new 40-tonne Sino trucks, while development partners have provided an additional 15 trucks, bringing the total number of new waste collection vehicles to 24.

The expanded fleet will support garbage collection in Lubaga, Makindye, Kawempe, Nakawa, and Central Division, areas that have recently faced challenges with waste accumulation.

KCCA said one of the major obstacles affecting waste management remains congestion at the Buyala Waste Management Facility, where increased waste volumes and heavy traffic have slowed down the offloading process.

The authority, however, said the new trucks will help improve efficiency, increase collection capacity, and ensure garbage is removed more consistently across the city.

KCCA has urged Kampala residents to take part in keeping the city clean by separating household waste into degradable and recyclable categories before disposal.

The initiative is part of the ongoing National Cleaning Day campaign, with the authority emphasizing that maintaining a clean Kampala requires cooperation between city authorities and residents.

KCCA says the partnership will help create a healthier, cleaner, and more livable city for everyone.
