Tooro Kingdom has opened up about ongoing reports surrounding the health of Omukama Rukirabasaija Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, being sick with cancer and receiving treatment from USA, insisting that the young monarch is in good health and currently abroad for official engagements and further studies.
The clarification follows a report published by TheSpy Uganda claiming that King Oyo had been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in the United States while reportedly battling cancer.
In a statement dated August 3, 2026, and titled “His Majesty the King is Well,” the Tooro Kingdom described the reports as false and misleading.
“We wish to reassure all our people that His Majesty is in good health. He is currently abroad for official engagements and to further his studies,” the statement reads.
The Kingdom urged members of the public to rely on information released through its official communication channels and reject what it described as malicious rumours and defamatory misinformation.
“False information causes unnecessary anxiety, undermines public trust, and does not serve our people’s interests,” the statement added.
The latest clarification has since eased some of the concern that had spread among the Batooro and the wider public following the reports about the monarch’s alleged condition. Independent reporting also confirms that the Kingdom says King Oyo is abroad on official duties and pursuing further studies.
While the Tooro Kingdom’s response appears to have directly addressed the cancer reports, questions have now emerged over the formal attribution of the communication.
The statement circulating under Tooro Kingdom branding does not identify the individual official responsible for issuing it. It also does not carry a name, signature, title or direct media contact beneath the statement.
Instead, it concludes with:
“Thank you, Omukama Ahangirize! ENDS”
The omission has attracted attention because the communication deals with the health and whereabouts of the King — matters of significant public interest.
The statement is also understood to have been circulated through an X account associated with Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong.
Ordinarily, a major institutional statement responding to a sensitive issue of this nature would be expected to clearly identify the authorised spokesperson or official responsible for the communication.
That could be the Kingdom Prime Minister, a palace spokesperson or another designated official, together with their name, title and formal sign-off.
