National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has explained why he frequently reposts posts shared by Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Speaking during an interview with Uganda-US based journalist Isaac Kaiyz on the American Dream YouTube show, Bobi Wine said his decision is not driven by admiration for the First Son but is instead part of his political strategy.

According to Bobi Wine, reposting Muhoozi’s posts helps give them greater visibility because of his large following on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He said he deliberately amplifies the UPDF Chief’s statements because he believes doing so allows a wider international audience to see what he considers controversial statements and actions.

“I want to make Muhoozi popular. That’s why whatever he tweets, I put it on my page,” Bobi Wine said.

He added that while he believes the attention may benefit Muhoozi, he sees the strategy as an opportunity to expose what he describes as his wrongdoings to a broader audience.

Bobi Wine said his large following gives him an opportunity to amplify statements from government officials while also using the same platforms to criticise the ruling establishment.

His comments highlight the growing importance of social media in Uganda’s political landscape, with politicians and public officials increasingly using platforms such as X to communicate directly with the public and shape political debate.
