President Yoweri Museveni has urged newly elected NRM Members of Parliament to emulate Local Government ministers Balaam Barugahara and Justine Nameere in fighting corruption and protecting public resources.
Museveni made the remarks on Friday while addressing newly elected NRM MPs during the party’s Parliamentary Caucus at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where he singled out the two ministers for their efforts against corruption.
“I’m glad some members are doing some work — like Balaam Barugahara and Nameere,” Museveni said.
His remarks come as the Ministry of Local Government carries out surprise inspections across districts, with several officials reportedly arrested over allegations including payroll fraud, ghost workers, embezzlement of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and procurement irregularities.
Museveni also directed investigations into specific cases of alleged PDM fund abuse and urged MPs to take responsibility for monitoring government programmes and public resources in their constituencies.
He said MPs who expose corruption and protect public resources would earn the trust and support of their voters.
