Retired UPDF generals Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho and Brig. Gen. Charles Bakahumura have reportedly been detained as an expanding military investigation into alleged false intelligence reports and treachery continues.
According to insider reports, the two former senior intelligence officers, who previously headed the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), were arrested as authorities investigate circumstances surrounding a group of recently retired military officers.
The reported probe follows a viral video showing 19 retiring generals dancing in their red ceremonial uniforms during a farewell ceremony at State House on August 20, 2026. The event was presided over by President Yoweri Museveni.
The footage sparked widespread public debate, after which Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba referred to the officers as the “dancing Generals” and warned that action would be taken.
In subsequent posts, Muhoozi indicated that one general linked to the investigation was already in custody, while another was reportedly on the run and being sought for questioning.
Several other military personnel have also reportedly been arrested and charged with treachery, while sources claim more individuals connected to the investigation remain wanted.
However, the UPDF and other authorities have not officially confirmed the reported detention of Kandiho and Bakahumura.
The claims have therefore triggered fresh debate over the ongoing military investigations and the treatment of senior and retired officers, as authorities continue to establish the circumstances behind the probe.
