Abigail Inclusive Nursery & Primary School, in partnership with Abigail Foundation Uganda and Mukono District Local Government, has marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with its 4th Annual Family Support Week in Nakisunga, Mukono.
The event brought together families of children with disabilities, community members and local leaders for activities focused on inclusion, dignity and support for children living with disabilities.
More than 100 families received essential items during the support activities, providing assistance to households caring for children with disabilities.
Local leaders used the occasion to emphasize the importance of treating persons with disabilities with dignity while ensuring that children receive the support and opportunities they need to develop.
Abigail Foundation Uganda has been working with communities and Mukono District authorities on initiatives aimed at supporting children with disabilities, raising awareness and empowering families.
The organisation also supports children with different forms of disabilities through community and residential care programmes and has been involved in efforts to promote inclusive education, where children with and without disabilities can learn together with appropriate specialised support.
The foundation’s work in Nakisunga has also included identifying children facing neglect and other challenges and connecting them to support services.
The Family Support Week therefore provided an opportunity for families to receive practical assistance while also drawing attention to the wider need for continued support, inclusion and access to education for children with disabilities.
