Veteran Ugandan actor and playwright Alex Mukulu has died at the age of 72, leaving the country’s theatre and entertainment fraternity mourning his sudden loss.
Mukulu reportedly passed away this afternoon. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed, which has devasted his fans.
The family is yet to release further details about his passing and funeral arrangements.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolence messages from fans, friends, fellow entertainers and well-wishers, who have remembered him for his contribution to Uganda’s theatre and entertainment industry.
Mukulu was also widely known for his strict and uncompromising approach to talent development. He became particularly popular as a judge on Yolese Ekitone, a talent search programme that aired on Bukedde TV.
His sharp assessments and high standards made him a memorable figure among aspiring performers, especially when he felt a performance had fallen below expectations.
Throughout his career, Mukulu influenced several artists and performers, leaving behind a legacy that will remain part of Uganda’s theatre and entertainment history.
