“Tooro Queen Mother Kemigisha Sold 9,000 Acres of Kingdom Land”- Betty Nambooze

Mukono Municipality MP Hon. Betty Nambooze has reignited controversy surrounding the Tooro royal family, claiming that Queen Mother Best Kemigisa allegedly sold about 9,000 acres of land for approximately Shs4 billion.

Nambooze made the claims while appearing on the Bizonto comedy podcast, linking the alleged land transactions to some of the long-running disagreements surrounding the Tooro royal family and the succession questions following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Her remarks have revived a controversy that previously surfaced during the 2018 Land Probe Commission, where questions were raised about the administration of the estate of her late husband, King Patrick Olimi Kaboyo.

At the time, Kemigisa faced allegations concerning land transactions and the management of the estate. However, she maintained that the disputed land was private family property and not land belonging to Tooro Kingdom.

The controversy also involved the late lawyer Bob Kasango, who was accused of allegedly defrauding Kemigisa of proceeds from some land transactions.

Nambooze’s latest claims have now pushed the decades-old royal land controversy back into the spotlight, coming shortly after the death of King Oyo on August 27, 2026.

The claims remain allegations, and Kemigisa’s position on the disputed land has previously been that it was private family property.
