State Minister for Housing, Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, has warned tenants against keeping dogs and cats in rental properties without considering their neighbours, as concerns over residential disturbances continue to grow.
Namuganza also cautioned residents against playing loud music or engaging in activities that interfere with the peace and comfort of other tenants.
The minister issued the warning on Thursday while addressing the media on sustainable housing in Uganda at the Uganda Media Centre.
She urged tenants to follow landlords’ guidelines and maintain good relationships with their neighbours, noting that disputes over pets and noise can escalate into serious conflicts.
Namuganza cited a case in Kisaasi involving a tenant who allegedly keeps four dogs that have reportedly been biting residents in the area. She said she would personally intervene in the matter.
The minister stressed that tenants should not make residential areas unsafe or uncomfortable for other residents.
Her remarks come amid complaints about noise, pets and other disturbances in rental properties, particularly in Kampala and other rapidly growing urban areas.
Namuganza encouraged landlords and tenants to communicate clearly about house rules while urging residents to consider the welfare and peace of their neighbours.
