Music veteran Jose Chameleone has taken a swipe at returning singer Kid Fox, accusing him of clout-chasing and seeking cheap attention following his comeback after more than a decade away from Uganda’s music scene.
Speaking during a recent TikTok Live broadcast, Chameleone told Kid Fox that Uganda’s entertainment industry had changed significantly during his absence.
“Uganda has moved from where you used to know it from. We’ve lost loved ones and we’re still here. I don’t think you have anything new to add to the industry,” Chameleone said.
The Leone Island boss also delivered a pointed message to the singer:
“You left as a king, but now we have over five kings.”
Kid Fox, real name Steven Kiggundu, was a notable figure during Uganda’s 1990s and 2000s dancehall era before stepping away from music to pursue his studies and later spending more than 14 years living in Japan.
His return has recently generated controversy after interviews in which he appeared to claim he did not know established Ugandan stars such as Bobi Wine, remarks he later reportedly walked back.
