Former NBS TV news anchor and Executive Director of the African Institute for Investigative Journalism, Solomon Serwanjja, has reportedly been summoned by police over allegations of fraud and money laundering.

According to reports, the award-winning investigative journalist has been directed to appear at Natete Police Station next week to record a statement as part of ongoing investigations.

Authorities have not publicly released a detailed statement explaining the nature of the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the summons.

The reported development has nevertheless attracted widespread attention given Serwanjja’s profile as one of Uganda’s best-known investigative journalists.

The latest development follows earlier police summons involving activist Agather Atuhaire and activist Toko, with some online commentators linking the cases as part of a broader pattern involving journalists and civil society activists.

However, no official statement has connected the investigations, and the relationship between the cases remains a matter of public speculation.

Serwanjja has built his reputation through investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of office, including reports on the alleged misuse of COVID-19 relief funds and alleged drug trafficking involving government officials.

Over the years, he has also faced police raids and other security-related actions connected to his investigative reporting.

The latest police summons adds another chapter to the journalist’s long-running interactions with law enforcement agencies.

More details are expected to emerge after Serwanjja records his statement at Natete Police Station.
